The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria made its first call for funding proposals on 29 January at the close of its first board meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Fund, a private-public initiative set up last year to channel money into the prevention and treatment of the three killer diseases, has US$1.9 billion to disburse.

“AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria have a devastating global impact,” said Team Leader of the Secretariat Paul Ehmer. “The streamlined grant-making process we are announcing today is designed to minimise unnecessary delays, and maximise the support available for frontline efforts to control these epidemics.”
