AgroAsie is a social enterprise that promotes technology transfer and fair trade related to sustainableorganic agriculture. Its aim is to boost the income of poor Lao communities, contribute to their wellbeing and save biodiversity.
The AgroAsie farm produces fruit and vegetables, and teaches local farmers organic techniques such as vermicomposting, which uses worms to produce a natural fertiliser, and the use of non-chemical pesticides. Ian Dierdens, AgroAsie’s co-director, explains why organic agriculture can prevent health problems among the Lao people.
