Windfall spurs Israel-Palestine research efforts

One of the few surviving partnerships between Israeli and Palestinian scientists — an investigation of the hereditary basis of deafness — has received a donation of US$100,000.

The welcome financial boost comes from a US$1 million prize scooped by geneticists John Sulston, Sydney Bremner and Robert Waterston.

One of the researchers leading the project, Karen Avraham from Tel Aviv University hopes that the donation will allow them to recruit new postgraduate students for the project later this year.
