When physicist Kate Shaw was sent to teach a course in particle physics in Palestine, she decided to investigate the life of local female students and report on the different issues that they face on their academic journey. Alongside the course, she committed to getting to know her students from a personal perspective.

She teamed up with photographer Jack Owen and documented how, in the Arab world, physics is not a male-only field, and actually attracts more women than men. Together, Shaw and Owen produced a photo-essay showing the life and aspirations of future female physicists, in the hope that western countries will learn from the Arab world, and eventually overcome the prejudice that women don’t do physics.
