Jonathan Ledgard is director of Afrotech, a Swiss-based initiative that pioneers new technologies in Africa. In this podcast, he explains why the future of transport across the continent will hinge on cargo drones. From easing congestion in densely populated cities to opening up the huge rural areas poorly connected by roads, Ledgard says drones could revolutionise how cargo is delivered. Africa should position itself as a pioneer of drone technology now, he says, and Afrotech is working closely with African governments to help make flying robots an everyday reality.
