<p><P>For thousands of Africans living overseas and seeking ways to contribute to the development of the continent, initiatives to staunch the outflow of professional expertise are offering new opportunities.</P><br />
<P>In this article Gumisai Mutume describes a number of these initiatives that either attempt to use the Internet to facilitate interaction between expatriates and their home countries or aim to entice skilled professionals to return to Africa.</P><br />
<P>He reports that despite the relative success of such initiatives — and growing political will to back them up — the organisations involved face the challenge of attracting larger numbers of participants. </P><br />
