Emanuela Zuccalà is an Italian journalist, writer and filmmaker experienced in women’s rights, whose work has been published by several European and African media outlets. She has reported from 50 countries of the world, mainly from Africa and the Middle East.
She’s winner of several international journalism awards, such as the Press Freedom Award by Reporters Sans Frontières, the Mediterranean Journalist Award by the Anna Lindh Foundation, the For Diversity-Against Discrimination Prize by the European Commission.

Her documentary movie Just To Let You Know That I’m Alive (2013) about women victims of enforced disappearances in Western Sahara, has been awarded prizes by many international film festivals, such as the Margaret Mead in New York City and the Aan Korb of the Bbc.
In 2016 she launched Uncut, a multimedia project on female genital mutilations, including a photographic exhibition and a short documentary. It has won so far 15 international journalism and documentary awards, and has been screened twice at the European Parliament during institutional conferences.

Her new multimedia project is Crossing the River (2018) on maternal mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa, funded by the European Journalism Centre.
She’s author of 7 books published in Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Brazil.
