  • Hitching a ride on the sustainable development caravan

Shares
Participants in the World Summit on Sustainable Development in August will be invited to minimise the environmental impact of their travel arrangements and take a non-air option to Johannesburg.

Organisers of the ‘climate train’ to Kyoto are currently preparing the ‘Johannesburg Caravan’ and have called for backing of the initiative, saying that it will help to raise awareness of the event.

It is likely that there will be multiple routes involving both land and sea transportation, with the journey taking around four weeks. Meetings will be arranged en route to discuss environmental and development issues within local contexts.
