Aleida Rueda is a science journalist based in Mexico City. She graduated in Journalism from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and did a Master’s degree in Journalism for News Agencies at the University Rey Juan Carlos (Spain), which included an internship at the editorial desk of EFE agency in Cairo, Egypt. She also did a Diploma Course in Journalism for Developing Countries at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, in New Delhi.

She has 18 years of experience as a science writer, both in English and Spanish, on subjects such as science, health, environment and climate change in developing countries, with a special focus on Latin America.

She has won several awards, such as the National Prize of Journalism on Sustainability 2013 and 2016 and the first place in the Science & Health category of the COVID-19 Reporting Contest organised by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and the International Network of Journalists (IJNet).

For 8 years, Aleida was the PIO at the Institute of Physics and now she works as science communicator at the Complex Science Center, both at UNAM.

Aleida currently writes news and features and produces multimedia content for SciDev.Net (Latin America) and Salud con Lupa (Perú); she is also a frequent columnist for Pie de Página (México) and Fundación Gabo (Colombia). Aleida is co-founder and former president of the Mexican Network of Science Journalists (RedMPC).
