Last year, 24 people every minute were forced to leave their homes because of conflict or persecution.
According to figures from UNHCR (the UN refugee agency), 2015 saw the highest number of refugees ever recorded, with 65.3 million living as displaced people globally.
This slideshow, put together for Refugee Week, collates the latest facts about refugees, illustrating the magnitude of the problem with some of the images that show the people and places behind the statistics.

This slideshow was produced by SciDev.Net's Global Edition.
