An estimated 1 billion people globally are living with a disability, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with 80 per cent of these located in low- and middle-income countries. But this sector of society remains one of the most marginalised, and barriers to education, health services and employment leave many living in poverty.
 
In this Spotlight we look at the technologies being developed and deployed to improve the lives of people with disabilities in the Global South. And we explore the data and evidence gaps that may be standing in the way of change, asking what needs to be done to unlock research in this often neglected area of international development.
