<p><P>Ghana’s president needs a science and technology advisor, according to Joseph Gogo, chair of the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS) board of trustees. </P><br />
<P>Speaking at a workshop yesterday (27 April), Gogo also called for Ghana’s government to implement a system to monitor growth of the scientific workforce and to measure its performance in various sectors. </P><br />
<P>The national coordinator of the ATPS, George Essegbey, called for improved capacity building to help scientists to access funding from development agencies. Essegbey noted that such agencies are vital to research in the region and represent a source of investment.</P><br />
<P>Ghana’s deputy minister of environment and science, Gheysika Agambila, told the workshop that the government thinks science and technology is crucial to development. </P><br />
<P>He urged the ATPS to develop policy proposals for country’s decision makers. </P><br />
