Kenyan teachers have revived the country’s Science Teachers Association — which was originally founded in 1952 but has lain dormant since the mid-1970s — in attempt to boost interest in science in the classroom.

The move comes amid concern that science teaching in the country is too theoretical and is discouraging many students from pursuing scientific subjects.

The association aims to advise the government on the science and technology curriculum at all levels of education, and hopes eventually to set up resource centres for scientists and teachers in various parts of the country.
