In this interview, we speak to Fatima Denton, director of the Special Initiatives Division at the UN Economic Commission for Africa. She argues that more should be done to ensure science is harnessed to address the needs of local communities across Africa, so that they are not left behind as the continent continues to develop economically. She also describes how Africa’s youthful population is one of the continent’s greatest resources, and stresses the importance of governments supporting young entrepreneurs.

Denton was talking at the Science Africa UnConference, an event organised by charity the Planet Earth Institute in London, United Kingdom, on 18 November.
