The podcast will look at science and health in Sub-Saharan Africa and give policymakers, development practitioners, academics and the general public a weekly insight into the impact that science is having in Africa’s least-developed countries.
Africa Science Focus will offer African researchers an opportunity to highlight their work to European and African audiences and give African journalists a space where they can report on science.
“We want to enable journalists in these countries to speak about the impact of science on their own communities,” says SciDev.Net managing editor Ben Deighton. “This podcast will give them a platform, which allows them to take this message to the policymakers whose decisions can impact on their lives.”
SciDev.Net Sub-Saharan Africa English editor Ochieng’ Ogodo says: “Africa Science Focus is about life: it is about science and health and will candidly discuss issues that are important to the people in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
“We will look at some of the unique challenges and successes in health and science in the region, in a free and independent communication with global audiences. This is yet another exciting milestone in SciDev.Net’s growth and commitment to providing news, views and analysis about science and technology in the developing world.”
Africa Science Focus — supported by a European Development Journalism grant from the European Journalism Centre — joins our popular French-language Africa podcast Santé, Science et Développement.
