Access to an adequate and nutritious diet is about more than agricultural productivity. Which factors contribute to food insecurity, how do they relate to other development challenges, and what can scientific knowledge bring to efforts to tackle hunger and malnutrition?

This Spotlight presents an in-depth analysis including opinions, facts and figures, key reports and useful links. Rikin Gandhi, TED Fellow and CEO of development organisation Digital Green; Joe DeVries, Director of the Program for Africa's Seed System at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA); and Digvir S. Jayas, grain storage specialist at the Biosystems Engineering Department, University of Manitoba, Canada offer their views on the debate.

It includes a multimedia feature with the NGO Practical Action in the Bolivian highlands, and podcast interviews with Sir Gordon Conway, Professor at Imperial College London; Lawrence Haddad, Director of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex; and Julia Powell, Communications Manager at IDS.
