Boost for Indian software developers
Oracle, the world's second largest software company, has announced plans to open its biggest research centre outside the United States in India.
The US company has said the opening of the plant in Hyderabad will double its workforce in India to more than 6,000.
The announcement is expected to draw criticism in the United States, where software developers are campaigning against the loss of skilled jobs to countries, such as India, that provide cheaper labour. Oracle denies that the move is a cost-saving initiative, saying that India is one of its key markets, and that as such it is important to have a strong presence there.Link to BBC Online news story
