Bangladesh is one of the countries most likely to be badly hit by the adverse effects of anthropogenic climate change — including sea level rise, droughts, floods and cyclones.

Although the country produces less than 0.1 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, it is nevertheless taking steps to reduce its future emissions through the development of renewable energy and the use of (relatively clean) natural gas.

But Saleemul Huq calls for a more concerted plan of action to face the problems of climate change, and argues that Bangladesh needs to play a still more important role in international negotiations to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
