Are you a science journalist looking to have your work published in one of Africa’s largest media outlets?

Script is offering six African science journalists the chance to work with three of the region’s most respected media outlets. We’re partnering with New Vision in Uganda, The Daily Nation in Kenya and The Citizen in Tanzania, to give six journalists the chance to have their work published in one of these high profile, mainstream news publications.

The opportunity is open to all science journalists, whatever your level of experience, as long as you have completed the Script Science Communication Skills for Journalists online course. The winning applicants will be partnered with a media outlet and receive guidance and support from editorial staff to develop their story for publication during 2021.

To apply, simply complete the course and fill in the application form on the final page to tell us your story idea before 5pm EAT on 18 December 2020. Applications will be judged on the story’s likely interest to audiences, its potential impact, clarity of language, and evidence of sources and potential interviewees. Editorial support from the allocated media partner will be provided either remotely or face-to-face, but will include at least one face-to-face meeting with editorial staff at no cost to applicants (COVID-19 restrictions allowing). Because of the location of the media outlets involved, priority will be given to applicants based within Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania.

Successful applicants will be notified by 31 January 2021.

This opportunity has been made possible through the support of the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
