<p><P>Chinese scientists are making valuable contributions to government policy on several key issues affecting the country’s development.</P><br />
<P>Speaking at the 12th General Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), its president Lu Yongxiang hailed the contribution of CAS consultations and appraisals to Beijing’s policy-makers.</P><br />
<P>CAS has completed research and submitted proposals on a range of issues including biodiversity, pollution, AIDS intervention and basic sciences. The academy will encourage more scientists engage decision makers on critical development issues, said Lu.</P><br />
