This conference was held in Addis Adaba, Ethiopia in February 2000 to assess the impact of the brain drain on Africa’s development, and to consider how the net loss of intellectual capacity could be stemmed and harnessed. Jointly organised by the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the International Organisation for Migration, the conference yielded a number of useful background documents, including case studies from Nigeria, Gambia, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
