A website intended to provide reliable and accurate information on HIV/AIDS to researchers, health professionals, teachers, policy-makers and the general public in Southern Africa was launched yesterday (28 November).

AfroAIDSinfo, developed by the South African Medical Research Council (MRC), can be found at www.AfroAIDSinfo.org. The site contains news, events listings and discussion groups, as well as information in five categories: ‘Research’, ‘Health profession’, ‘HIV and you’, ‘Policy’ and ‘Education’.

The ‘Research’ section, for example, aims to provide up-to-date information on medical advances and research projects, and allows scientists to interact through an online chat forum.

“AfroAIDSinfo holds the potential to impact the HIV/AIDS pandemic in a profoundly positive way through maintaining an appropriate two-way information flow with its target audiences and providing them with relevant up-to-date information,” says the MRC.
