<p>Hans Rosling, statistician and medical doctor, is the cofounder and chairman of the Gapminder foundation, a Swedish web-based service that provides high school and college teachers with tools to explore the core social, economic and environmental trends that are changing the world. The task for science journalists when addressing the scale of these trends, he says, “is to bring the academy of science into the tabloid newspaper format”.</p>
