Last year, to secure a prominent place for science and technology in the post-2015 agenda, the Addis Ababa Action action Agenda on development financing and the outcome document on the SDGs both recommended creating a mechanism to assist developing nations.
The Technology Facilitation Mechanism will aid sustainable and lasting scientific capacity building that responds to the specific needs of each country. It will also help coordinate the activities of other UN agencies.
In this interview, we speak with Elmer William Jr Colglazier, a science diplomacy expert who is one of the ten members on a UN panel created to support the new mechanism. He explains the story of the mechanism and what needs it intends to address, and looks at future challenges.
