Integrated circuit: China will fund nanotechnology research in fields including microelectronics
Wikipedia
The Chinese government has promised a significant boost in funding for its nanotechnology sector.
The announcement was made last week (9 June) by Cheng Jinpei, vice-minister for science and technology, at the China International Conference on Nanotechnology in Beijing. Cheng did not reveal specific figures for the funding boost.
Jiang Lei, chief scientist of the nanotechnology subcommittee of the ministry of science and technology's 863 Programme, said the investment for the next five years would be several times more than the 210 million yuan (US$25.5 million) invested between 2001 and 2005.
He added that the ministry would focus investment on six fields, including microelectronics, medical materials and energy projects.
Bai Chunli, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said the funding boost reflected Chinese scientists achievements to date in the field of nanotechnology.
