Africa’s energy consumption is very low compared to other parts of the world, and large numbers of Africans depend on firewood and charcoal for energy production.

In this article, Ogunlade Davidson argues that the importance of modern energy provision in African development cannot be overemphasised.

He says that African governments must ensure that the rural majority has access to the same energy choices as city dwellers, and calls on nations to work together in approaching these critical energy issues.
