The Zimbabwean government is dropping its opposition to accepting genetically modified food as aid, according to officials at the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP).

Last week, President Robert Mugabe said that his country would accept yellow maize donated by the US government. The grain will be milled so that the seeds cannot be planted.

The WFP say that the agreement will be formalised shortly.
