[NAIROBI] The Sustainable Intensification Maize-Legume Systems for Food Security in Eastern and Southern Africa (SIMLESA) project is training farmers on farming systems to improve production. The project is being implemented in five African countries Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania.

International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) researchers are working with farmers in five counties in western and eastern Kenya to collect data that aims to identify the socio-economic constraints to, and incentives for faster technology adoption.

After the adoption of SIMLESA technologies such as intercropping of maize and legumes, the farmers have realised a 50 per cent increase in their maize yields.
