The call for a ‘data revolution’ to underpin an inclusive sustainable development framework after 2015 poses certain questions, not least of which is, what is the concept of a data revolution itself?

The question was addressed at last month’s conference on data and accountability for the post-2015 development agenda in New York, United States. Paul Ladd, who leads the UN Development Programme’s team on the post-2015 development agenda, had the task of keeping the three-day event focused and so is uniquely placed to offer an insight into how data fit into policies and development interventions around the world.
