Jonathan Ledgard is director of Afrotech, a Swiss-based initiative that pioneers new technologies in Africa. In this podcast, he explains why the future of <a href="https://www.scidev.net/enterprise/transport/">transport</a> across the continent will hinge on cargo drones. From easing congestion in densely populated <a href="https://www.scidev.net/governance/cities/">cities</a> to opening up the huge rural areas poorly connected by roads, Ledgard says drones could revolutionise how cargo is delivered. Africa should position itself as a pioneer of drone technology now, he says, and Afrotech is working closely with African governments to help make flying robots an everyday reality.</p>
