Africa’s abundant renewable natural resources such as wind, sunshine and water could be used to improve energy security for the poor, particularly in rural areas that are off the electricity grid. Philip Mann, senior project manager for the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme, chaired a panel discussion during the Second High Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership, held this week (11-13 February) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On the sidelines of the event, he discusses the importance of reshaping energy policies to unlock funding and support renewable technologies in the face of Africa’s increasing energy needs.
