National and local broadcasters across Africa play a pivotal role in bringing African research to the public, says Alex Jakana, executive producer at the BBC World Service’s Africa section.

In this audio interview he explains how BBC Africa has been partnering with radio stations across the continent to turn research and innovations into compelling content that engages and informs audiences. For example, Med in Africa focuses on informing the public about grassroots health solutions to longstanding problems, such as safer male circumcision practices and ways of preventing asphyxia at birth.

The interview was recorded at ‘Africa’s Knowledge Economy’, a recent debate organised by SciDev.Net in partnership with the Planet Earth Institute.
