Biodiversity Media Alliance

This network, created by the International Institute for Environment and Development, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Internews, connects journalists with scientists to help in improve media reporting of biodiversity issues. The website hosts a blog, where members can post stories, ideas, photos and publications. A list of relevant events and links are also available.

Earth Journalism Network

This website hosts the Earth Journalism Network, which aims to help journalists from developing countries to report on environmental issues more effectively. The network was developed by the Internews Network and Internews Europe and it organises the Earth Journalism Awards programme.

It also establishes links among environmental journalists, offering capacity building through workshops, training materials, support for production and distribution, and small grants. The website provides information about the Network's activities and partners, fellowship programmes, and useful tools and resources. These include a toolkit and online courses with tips on how to report on popular environmental issues, and studies of environmental journalism.

International Federation of Environmental Journalists

The IFEJ was initially set up in 1993 by French and German environmental journalists, and today has members, correspondents and/or member associations in more than 110 countries. IFEJ's mission is to improve public understanding of environment and sustainable development issues worldwide by supporting environmental journalists internationally through networking, training and promoting free access to information.

International Federation of Journalists

The International Federation of Journalists is the world's largest organisation of journalists, and currently represents around 500,000 members in more than 100 countries. The IFJ acts to defend press freedom and social justice, and promotes human rights, democracy and pluralism. It is the organisation that speaks for journalists within the United Nations system and within the international trade union movement.

International Press Centre Biodiversity Research (IPCB)

The International Press Centre for Biodiversity Research, run by the European-funded ALTER-Net project, links to biodiversity research news and press releases from universities and research institutes. It runs a networking service to put journalists in touch with biodiversity researchers willing to answer questions and provide comment on biodiversity issues. It also highlights relevant events.

International Science Writers Association

The International Science Writers Association is a US-based organisation that was formed in response to the increasingly international scope of science popularisation and technical communications. ISWA's primary objective is to provide contacts and to enable members to assist each other when working in a foreign country. ISWA is of particular value to individuals who do not have a national association of science writers in their home countries.

Journalists Against AIDS Nigeria

JAAIDS is a media-based non-governmental organisation in Nigeria working in the field of HIV/AIDS and development. Its mission is to contribute to the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria by improving the quality of HIV/AIDS communication messages and by strengthening the quality of policy response and interventions. It does so by providing training courses and information resources, and encouraging informed discourse on issues relating to HIV/AIDS in the media.

US National Association of Science Writers

The US National Association of Science Writers was founded in 1934 with a remit to "foster the dissemination of accurate information regarding science through all media normally devoted to informing the public". It now has more than 2,000 members, including science writers and editors from a wide range of publications. The website has a useful directory of resources about "communicating science news".
