FOUR50 is building a network of experts, activists and enthusiasts committed to preventing the epidemic of chronic disease and raising awareness about its devastating consequences. It aims to do this by focusing on the 3 risk factors (poor diet, lack of physical activity, tobacco use) that lead to four chronic diseases (CVD, diabetes, chronic lung diseases and some cancers) contributing to more than 50% of deaths worldwide.

EIFL works with libraries and other partners around the world to increase access to knowledge for research and sustainable community development. One of the programmes run by the organisation, the Public Library Innovation Programme, gives small grants to public libraries in developing countries to implement community development services using information and communication technology (ICT). The programme supports 37 services in 22 countries, as well as studies to evaluate their impact. Projects include using mobile phones to deliver health messages to communities, and providing farmers with access to libraries' online resources on market prices and farm technology. The Equator Network is an international initiative that aims to improve the quality of medical research reports. It provides a library of resources for health research reporting including guidance on scientific writing, information on research and publication ethics, and examples of good reporting.

JCOM is an online journal on scientific communication, which is trying to become an interdisciplinary melting-pot capable of providing some theoretical guidelines for science communication. Each article undergoes multidisciplinary peer-reviewing by experts belonging to different areas of competence such as science, communication and theory of communication.

This web portal provides access to an archive of 'grey literature' to promote collective learning and empowerment for vulnerable and marginalised people, helping them to claim their rights and improve their lives. It emphasises participatory approaches, methods, tools, principles and concepts already being practised on the ground.

The website is aimed at community-based organisations, and aims to create a platform where practitioners working on similar themes can share knowledge. The website publishes related documents, videos, an events page and a forum where members can post questions and start discussions on issues such as monitoring and evaluation and implementation strategies.

This programme was set up by several nongovernmental organisations to promote sustainable agriculture and natural resource management in developing nations. It aims to facilitate the use of indigenous knowledge to help farmers devise systems to cope with change, achieve food security, sustain livelihoods and protect the environment. It also works towards integrating local innovations into formal agricultural research.

The Science Diplomacy Monitor, an initiative of the US-based Center on Public Diplomacy links to news, commentary and videos about science diplomacy from around the world that are published in mainstream media and on academic websites.

This online community, hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSDi), invites development professionals to share resources and collaborate through community boards, blogs and forum discussions to develop sustainable, impact-oriented tools and solutions for development challenges.
