AlertNet: Alerting humanitarians to emergencies

A project of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, AlertNet is a news aggregator that aims to raise awareness of humanitarian crises around the globe, particularly 'forgotten' emergencies that rarely make headlines. It publishes news from over 400 aid agencies and other media outlets across a range of topics, from natural disasters to climate change to health. AlertNet also provides tools for journalists, including facts and figures, crisis briefings and training modules.

Global Health Frontline News

This website publishes video news coverage of under-reported global health stories, focusing on HIV/AIDS; polio; tuberculosis; malaria; neglected tropical diseases; maternal and child health; and food security. Each topic includes an overview of the subject, a photo gallery, and the latest news and videos highlighting current issues. The website includes a blog, a 'newsroom' page that highlights developments within the organisation, details of current and future film projects, and links to related organisations.

Global Health Reporting

This is a project operated by the Kaiser Family Foundation with major support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

It aims to keep journalists informed of the latest updates on malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. The website has information on the current status of each disease, and links to news items from around the world. There are also extensive links to libraries and many other information resources.

Readers can receive e-mails of news and event updates from the Kaiser foundation, and can use a search facility for news summaries.

Malaria Consortium UK

This non-profit organisation works with partners in Ghana and Uganda to improve the control and treatment of malaria. It offers services such as programme design and development, consultancy services, and technical support services to other non-governmental organisations. Information resources include annual reports, publications, and links to journals and organisations.

Malaria in the Kruger National Park

The website of South Africa's Kruger National Park provides information about malaria that is especially useful for visitors. The page describes how malaria spreads, and notes the times of day and months of year when people are at high risk of infection at the park. It lists precautionary measures including prophylactic drugs, and a 24-hour hotline to access detailed information about what can be done to minimise risk.

World Health Organization: malaria

This department of the World Health Organization provides information, technical and expert guidance on prevention and control of malaria, and links to partnerships including Roll Back Malaria and the special programme on Tropical Diseases Research. Publications aimed at both non-specialists and researchers include fact sheets, technical reports and policy documents. Many documents are available in English, French and Spanish.
