Chinese scientists need help to take part in major international collaborations, say Ye and Fu

Major international research collaborations can accelerate a country's scientific development by harnessing expertise and funds from around the world. But such projects usually originate in and draw participants from the West.

In this article, Ye Duzheng and Fu Congbin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences say that although China is a developing nation, its scientists are capable of playing a leading role in such collaborations. China, they say, should set up a dedicated government office to support this.

Doing so would increase China's influence in international research and help attract international expertise and funds. It might also help to reverse the 'brain drain' of academic talent overseas.
