<p>South Korea is to study whether a nuclear power plant could be built in Vietnam, following an agreement between the countries’ science and technology vice-ministers in Hanoi on 22 October. <BR><BR>Vietnam currently has no nuclear reactors. But during the past year it has been investigating the feasibility of using nuclear power to meet its electricity needs.<BR><BR>Under the agreement, the countries will pursue a total of 12 new research projects on agriculture, medicine and resources. South Korea will also train high-ranking Vietnamese officials to become specialists in atomic energy, and has promised to invite 56 Vietnamese scientists to work in Korea by 2003.<BR><BR>© SciDev.Net 2001</p>
