Climate change threatens coral reefs

Global warming will have a severe effect on the world's coral reefs unless drastic interventions are introduced, marine experts have warned.
A report released this week by the non-profit Pew Center on Global Climate Change reveals that almost 15 per cent of the world's reefs are already beyond repair, and another 30 per cent may be lost over the next 30 years.
Coral reefs harbour about a quarter of the world's marine species and generate some US$30 billion each year through fishing and tourism.
