Men who have been circumcised have a much lower risk of contracting HIV than uncircumcised men, according to new research.

A study of more than 2,000 men in India published in The Lancet found that circumcised men were six times less likely to contract HIV.

The researchers found that circumcision did not lower the chances of contracting other sexual diseases, suggesting that the thin foreskin tissue could be particularly susceptible to HIV infection.
