This website hosts the Earth Journalism Network, which aims to help journalists from developing countries to report on environmental issues more effectively. The network was developed by the Internews Network and Internews Europe and it organises the Earth Journalism Awards programme.
It also establishes links among environmental journalists, offering capacity building through workshops, training materials, support for production and distribution, and small grants. The website provides information about the Network's activities and partners, fellowship programmes, and useful tools and resources. These include a toolkit and online courses with tips on how to report on popular environmental issues, and studies of environmental journalism.
The Geo-Wiki Project aims to improve the quality of global land cover maps to determine, for example, the potential of additional agricultural land available to grow crops in Africa. A network of global volunteers reviews the accuracy of land-use maps based on their local knowledge and what they see on Google Earth. The results are recorded in a database used to create more accurate global land cover maps.
The website contains instructions on how to use the geo-wiki and provides access to the validation data. It includes information about branches that tackle different themes and lists related projects and data sources.
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility is an international, government-funded initiative focused on providing free and open access to biodiversity data online for scientific research, conservation and sustainable development.
The website provides an Internet-based index of primary biodiversity data, such as museum specimens and field observations of plants and animals in nature; community-developed tools for formatting and sharing data; and capacity building through training, including access to international experts and mentoring programmes. The website links to relevant reports and news, and publishes information in different languages including English, Chinese and Korean.
The Guardian Environment website publishes news and commentary on environmental issues such as climate change, energy, ethical living, food and recycling.
It also provides blogs, job listings and multimedia, including audio and video podcasts. Users can comment and are encouraged to join discussions.
The website also aggregates relevant news from members of the Guardian Environment Network, which brings together the world's best environment websites including SciDev.Net, China Dialogue, Real Science and the World Resources Institute.
The NNRMS is an inter-agency network for integrated natural resource management in India. It uses remote sensing data combined with other data to provide inventories of natural resources for applications such as infrastructure development, environmental monitoring and disaster management support.
NNRMS publishes information about the country's earth observation satellites, overviews of its work and a biannual bulletin with news and information about key projects.
This website is an international public–private consortium that provides developing countries with free or low-cost access to environmental science research. It is coordinated by the UN Environment Programme, Yale University, and science and technology publishers.
More than 100 low-income countries can access more than 4,000 peer reviewed titles (as of October 2011) on a wide range of subjects including climate change, renewable energy, forests, natural disasters and water.
