Thousands will receive their 'first-time brush with computer literacy' as part of the first World Computer Literacy Day on 2 December 2001. The event is being organised by the Indian computer company NIIT, to mark its 20^th anniversary.

The company will offer free training for 20,000 individuals, ranging from school children to members of the Indian parliament.

Across the world, the company will train at least 100,000 people in 26 countries as part of the event, which aims to help bridge the digital divide by increasing access to information technology.
