Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture

Launched in 2003, AGORA provides free or subsidised journal access to not-for-profit institutions in eligible countries. Once details are finalised, all institutions in countries with a GNP per capita under US$1,000 will be given access to participating literature. The journal collection focuses on agriculture and related sciences, and includes titles from major publishing houses. AGORA is an FAO initiative. Click here for more details about registering.

African Journal of Food Agriculture, Nutrition and Development

AJFAND is an academic journal — published quarterly — by the Rural Outreach Programme, a non-profit company based in Kenya. The journal's free-access website features peer-reviewed articles about poverty, food security, disease and agriculture in Africa. It also provides commentaries, short communications, book reviews, and relevant news and events. Students can submit work to the student section.

CropLife International

CropLife International is a federation of multinational companies and national and regional associations working in plant science. It publishes information on agri-biotechnology, pesticides and sustainable agriculture. This includes regulatory codes and biosafety protocols, as well as position papers, opinion articles and technical monographs.

Their website highlights relevant initiatives around the world and includes a glossary of terms, frequently asked questions and links to industry associations, international and nongovernmental organisations, and online information providers. It also hosts a database on the benefits and safety of biotechnology containing a collection of academic papers reporting on genetically modified crop impacts around the world.

Ethnovetweb

This website on ethnoveterinary medicine deals with people’s knowledge, skills, methods, practices and beliefs with regard to the care of their animals. The website features news of conferences and events, new projects, publications, links and online journals.

International Livestock Research Institute

One of the 16 'Future Harvest' centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), ILRI helps people in poor countries build and protect their livestock-based assets. Among other activities, ILRI offers training and hosts three libraries in Ethiopia, Kenya and the Phillipines. Its website also provides a number of online training materials.

Rural Poverty Portal

This website from the International Fund for Agricultural Research shares information on strategies to eradicate rural poverty. The site publishes articles, case studies and videos on key topics including desertification, livestock and rural finance. It also links to relevant reports, projects, programmes and organisations.

Uganda National Agricultural Research Organisation

NARO is an unbrella organisation for nine research institutes in Uganda, tackling the issues surrounding crops, fisheries, forestry and livestock and their applicability to sustainable development.
