This summer school gives 25 participants from various international universities, some from the developing countries of South Asia, the opportunity to understand and critically evaluate issues that lie at the interface of environment and development; poverty; democracy, equity and justice; and culture.
COURSE MODULES • Natural resource management – water, forests • Change agents: Environmentalism of the poor • Governance imperatives • Poverty and the biomass economy • Environmental conflicts • Urban growth challenges: water, waste, pollution, mobility • Towards sustainable industrialization • Climate change from a Southern perspective DEBATE, DELIBERATE, DISCUSS Lectures, workshops, local field trips, case studies, readings, film reviews. Faculty includes policy makers, development professionals, leading activists, researchers and eminent academics from premier universities. EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE RURAL INDIA Observe. Immerse. Engage. Learn from community-led eco restoration initiatives. Talk to change makers working at the grassroots level. Spend time with them over a week. CREATE Write, design, edit & illustrate your own magazine. Or, create a web documentary.
To build a cadre of informed young people on issues of environment and development concerns of South Asia.
U.K £ 900/ (US$ 1400) Includes accommodation (dormitory), food during all training days, reading materials, use of all CSE facilities, library & common room facilities.
