This foundation's mission is to reduce malnutrition through food fortification. It focuses on providing supplements — such as iodised salt — and healthy food to malnourished populations. The website includes downloadable fact sheets of GAIN's programmes around the world and overviews of vitamins and nutrient deficiencies.

The organisation targets vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, people with infectious diseases, remote rural populations, or refugees. GAIN takes a business-minded approach to funding better nutrition, pooling its money with financial institutions, not-for-profit global venture funds and venture capitalists to encourage local businesses to develop new products, distribution channels and marketing approaches.

International Food Policy Research Institute

IFPRI - one of the 16 Future Harvest centres - seeks to identify and analyse policies for sustainably meeting the food needs of the developing world. Research at IFPRI concentrates on economic growth and poverty alleviation in low-income countries, improvement of the well-being of poor people, and sound management of the natural resource base that supports agriculture.

International Institute of Tropical Agriculture

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) aims to find research-based solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on the development needs of tropical countries in the region. It works with partners towards enhancing the quality and productivity of crops such as cowpea, cassava and maize; reducing the risks facing producers and consumers; and growing financial gains from agriculture. Its website publishes information on current research programmes, reports, news, press releases and events, as well as a blog about applications of the research, development news and conference proceedings.
