Project funding

SciDev.Net receives financial support from aid agencies, foundations and other partners for individual projects. For example, in 2006 and 2007 the Swiss Development Cooperation Agency funded the redesign of the website, and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research funded a dossier to raise awareness of desertification.

IDRC fund our ongoing internship programme and, through the World Federation of Science Journalists, our science journalism practical guides. Our regional science communication workshops also receive financial support from key local partners. For example, our China-based workshops have received funding from the British Council, the British Embassy, the publishers Elsevier, and UNESCO.

SciDev.Net is also a recipient of a Google Grant award. Google Grants is a unique in-kind advertising program harnessing the power of Google AdWords advertising product. Google Grants has awarded AdWords advertising to hundreds of non-profit groups whose missions range from animal welfare to literacy, from supporting homeless children to promoting HIV education.

Partnerships

SciDev.Net works with a range of organisations at global, regional and national levels to achieve shared objectives.

The scientific journals Nature and Science both provide us with free access to selected papers and articles each week. SciDev.Net is also affiliated with TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, based in Trieste, Italy.

In 2008 we agreed content partnerships with thr Guardian Environment Network and Alertnet. These partnerships mean that our content is reaching developed and developing world audiences beyond those visiting the website.

Partnerships can involve joint projects, such as science communication workshops and events, content sharing and reciprocal awareness-raising ventures. In Latin America, for instance, we work closely with Red Pop, the Latin American Network on Science Popularisation.

Please contact us as marketing@scidev.net if you have ideas for project funding or partnerships with SciDev.Net.
