FEWS NET, funded by the US Agency for International Development, provides early warning and vulnerability information on food security issues to 25 countries, many of which are in the developing world.

FEWS NET uses a combination of satellite data and socio-economic analyses to publish regular bulletins, updates and briefings as well as drought and food shortage alerts.

The disasters group of GEOSS integrates satellite data with other information to help disaster managers reduce vulnerability, improve early warning and support recovery measures.

The group has set up a coastal zone community of practice, established a global wildland fire early warning system and supports key organisations such as Sentinel Asia.

It publishes information about all its achievements as well as targets and planned activities.

The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters, formally opened in November 2000, provides a mechanism for accessing satellite data to help respond to natural disasters.

If a disaster strikes, authorised users can call a single number and request any and all participating satellites to collect data over the affected area.

The charter's website publishes a list of participating space agencies and organisations as well as information on all disasters that have activated the charter, including high resolution images of the resulting satellite data.

The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and inter-governmental institution, owned and managed by its Member States, for the generation and application of early warning information.

RIMES evolved in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, to establish a regional early warning system within a multi-hazard framework and capacity building for preparedness and response to trans-boundary hazards.

It monitors and analyses seismic, sea level and deep ocean data, as well as providing earthquake alerts and regional tsunami bulletins. It also provides short term extreme weather information and long term seasonal climate estimations to National Meteorological and Hydrological Services. Finally, it also identifies risk management options and develops decision support tools.

The website is divided into six sections: societal application; earthquake & tsunami; weather & extreme events; water-related hazards; seasonal climate; and climate change. It provides an earthquake monitor, tsunami bulletins, and flood and drought forecasts, as well as a number of resources including papers, publications and newsletters.

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) focuses on nutrition in early childhood and in pregnant and lactating women but it also tackles nutrition in emergency situations and in HIV-infected people. Its website provides an overview of its activities including providing nutrition security in emergencies, monitoring infant growth rates, distributing micronutrients and child feeding and care.

News updates from UNICEF as well as tables of statistics relating to children and nutrition are freely available as well as links to UNICEF publications and external links.

UN-SPIDER promotes universal access to satellite data relevant to disaster management. It publishes information on the latest disasters around the world and coordinates Space Aid, through which countries can request satellites to collect data over affected areas.

The organisation also hosts a library of guides on capacity building, disaster management and space application, among other topics.

UNDP activities in Bhutan fall within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals. More specifically, UNDP's support in the area of energy and environment in Bhutan focuses on national conservation strategies and policies, local conservation initiatives that contribute to rural community development and poverty reduction, national capacity to address global environmental concerns, and natural disaster risk reduction.
