<p>Today, more than a half of the earth’s population live in <a href="http://www.scidev.net/asia-pacific/governance/cities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">cities</a>. As a result of <a href="http://www.scidev.net/asia-pacific/environment/climate-change/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">climate change</a> and urbanisation, natural and human-made <a href="http://www.scidev.net/asia-pacific/environment/disasters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">disasters</a> are increasing in frequency and intensity, and the <a href="http://www.scidev.net/asia-pacific/governance/mdgs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">urban poor </a>are often the most affected by these calamities.</p>
<p>The first Resilient Cities Asia-Pacific congress held last 11-13 February in Bangkok saw the launch of the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN), a regional platform that aims to build a <a href="http://www.scidev.net/asia-pacific/governance/cooperation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">coalition</a> of practitioners and institutions committed to helping cities withstand and recover from the impacts of climate change.</p>
<p>In this video, Jim Jarvie, director of ACCCRN and the international aid NGO Mercy Corps, explains why building inclusive urban climate change resilience is critically important for Asia.</p>
